BRC Certification

LEARN MORE

The British Retail Consortium has created the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety. The standard is created to help the food industry to meet European and British legislative food safety requirements, in particular those outlined in the EU General Product Safety Directive and the UK Food Safety Act.

BRC Certification Assistance Services from Food Safety Sanitation

While BRC certification is in nearly all cases required for a company to sell food to UK retailers, the standard has been adopted as a pre-condition for sales to a number of other organizations around the world. BRC certification is also useful to mount a "due diligence" legal defense should there arise a question of liability, meaning that positive actions were taken to protect public health.

BRC Certification

There are currently more than 17,000 BRC certified suppliers in 90 countries throughout the world. A company wishing to pursue certification will contract with an accredited and BRC-certified Certification Body to conduct an audit of their production operations. If a company meets the requirements it become BRC certified, and maintains its certification by being audited again every three years.

Here is a summary of the benefits of BRC certification:

  • Fulfill your trading partners' requirements
  • Secure your position in the UK market
  • Improve food safety and product quality
  • Establish confidence in the quality of your goods and services

We assist in completing the steps involved in BRC certification:

  • Obtain and have available at the audit a copy of BRC Global Standard for Food Safety.
  • Conduct a self-assessment to determine the extent to which current operations are in compliance with the standard
  • Consider sending key personnel to one or more of the many available training programs from a BRC Approved Training Providers (ATPs)
  • Select a Certification Body, accredited by the BRC and available around the world
  • Receive the audit of your site from your Certification Body. Your plant must be in full production at the time of the audit.
  • Meet with your auditor to correct any non-conforming items. If necessary, you have 28 calendar days to take corrective action. An audit of corrective actions taken may be required.
  • Receive certification, certificate and audit report. Provide audit report and certificate to your customers. Advertise your achievement by being listed in the BRC directory.
